Intex Excursion 5: Adding a Wood Floor

Soooooo I love my boat.  It’s totes mah boat and it’s awesome.

Butttttt a hard wood floor that I could then build off of would be even better.

So, here’s the plan.

After doing some digging, I found that the inner dimensions for the boat are roughly 8′ x 3′ (96″ x 35″).  I don’t want a super heavy floor, so I’m going with 1/2″ thick pressure treated plywood.  Pressure treated because water, of course.  On top of that, I’ll put some carpet for traction and surround the edges with some foam pipe insulators.  I’ll use 1/4″ staples to secure the carpet, and some poly adhesive to secure the foam in place around the edges of the boards.  Finally, I’ll have some hinges because I’m going to cut the floor board into 3 pieces (I think).

Roughly, it’s going to come out to $125 for just the floor.

The idea is to take this:

and turn it into this:

and then into something like this:

Because I can.

  1. did you end up using hinges? It doesn’t look like it in the picture. It looks like you wrapped the foam around all edges of the three sections. Is it sturdy around the seams of the three sections? lastly, If I were to put hinges on mine, would I need to cut out a little extra of the sections to make room for the hinge? Thank you in advance if you see this and can help!
