Hello everyone, it’s been a while so I’m bringing you some info about what I’ve been doing lately. I’ve converted my two laptops and desktops at home into Dogecoin  miners!  The machines are sitting there, plugging away and trying to calculate hashes for blocks for dogecoins.  These dogecoins are digital (crypto) currency which can be traded, used as tips on websites like Reddit, or hoarded in hopes of it skyrocketing like BitCoin did.

So far, after about half a month of mining I’ve netted just over 28,000 dogecoins (thanks for pointing out my typo Adam!) which I have spent on various things including a vanity email address (talesofatech suchemail.com), tips on Reddit for people trying to spread the word, charity causes, etc.  I am saving up for purchases on places like Treats.io & ShopDoge where you can get Amazon and Steam gift cards.

Pretty neat stuff if you ask me!

I will be writing up a guide on how to get started mining when I get home tonight, so look there to find it if you’d like to try it yourself.

If you’d like to donate (which would make me <3 you) my donation address is: DF9yjBWBiZJNFKMAYZZ8nuJCSHMz3U9Rfp (DogeCoin only, and wallet 1.6 or higher only, please).

Things are going to be a little bit wonky for a little while folks. I apologize. Please let me know if you find anything that isn’t working properly.

The switch from talesofatech.com being the blog to blog.talesofatech.com to talesofatech.com/blog has been very messy and I’m 100% certain SOMETHING is broken I just don’t know what it is.

talesofatech.com will be the main page and this blog will be linked to it from there. I also enabled SSL thanks to StartSSL providing me a free certificate until I get a 100% legit one from Comodo through Namecheap when I transition away from GoDaddy next week.

So it’s been a day.  It’s time for afternoon coffee.

Awwwwyis.

Tonight: more cleaning for this weekend as well as some last minute shopping.  Very annoyed that my W2’s aren’t here yet and may not be here until mid-February thanks to the wonderfulness that is multiple payroll systems causing problems.  Deeeeeeeep breaths.

It’s a sad day when I’m forced to take (what I perceive to be) a technological step back.  I like to be on the bleeding edge when it comes to software.  I need to see what it is so I can support it.  Edge cases are very tricky to troubleshoot.  It’s a fun, albeit time consuming, game.

So, I speak of…  Unpinning Chrome from my taskbar and start menu in favor of Firefox due to a nasty bug (thanks to Nick Blew for finding it).  This bug causes my entire PC to hardlock whenever I load any web page with Flash content embedded in it to load if I’m using Chrome. HTML5 renders fine and doesn’t crash, but Flash pages cause immediate crashes. This is seemingly to do with my Realtek Chipset for audio, somehow. Chrome dev acknowledged it as a bug, but hasn’t done anything about it in 2-3 major revisions.  This bug occurred in versions: 26 (stable) – 30 (dev).

So. Firefox here we go.
