So, 2016 is nearly half-way done at this point (July 1st is 183rd day of the year) and I can’t think about what to write this week so I’m going to do a check-in.
Year: 2016
The One Plus 3: The Flagship Flop
OnePlus has announced their OnePlus 3: The Flagship Killer.
Or so they’d like you to think. This Flagship Killer is a Flagship Flop.
Let me give you some reasons why.
Funny Tickets This Week
We had some pretty funny tickets come in this week. It’s the end of the year, so things get kind of silly sometimes. Here’s my favorite ticket of the week.
NJ DMV: Get Your Shit Together
Today I went to the NJ DMV (Never will I ever call you the MVC, you are the DMV, deal with it and the negative connotation that DMV implies; you deserve it) fully expecting to get my license renewed. It’s the first Tuesday in the month of June, it’s 4:45pm, they don’t close til 7:30pm — it’ll be fine.
How wrong I was.
People in NJ Are Toxic To My Mood
Ugh. I woke up this morning, content to run a little late since I got to work half an hour early yesterday and stayed almost an hour and a half late (meaning I had nearly two hours to make up on). I took a nice long shower, I made a cup of coffee, and I strolled out of my apartment at 7:15 (normally 6:45). It was raining, but not too heavily. It was a nice morning. I thought to myself: It’s going to be a good day. I’m going to have a nice, relaxing drive in to work since I have no reason to rush. I’m going to get that project done at work. I’m going to be super productive. It’s going to be a good day.
I was so very, very wrong.
Filler Blog Post Three: ORNERY
Ornery. That’s the only way to describe how I am feeling today. Ornery is a good word. If it’s not an SAT word I’d be disappointed. Edit: I almost missed out an a glorious opportunity: I’d be ornery if ornery wasn’t an SAT word. I don’t know if that actually works. I think it does. English is weird. Whatever. I’ve said it, I can’t un-say it.
Today’s (the weekly post for this week) is brought to you by Mike, the Ornery bugger. It’s going to be a bunch of things that have me REALLY annoyed at the moment. Not RAGE AGAINST THE WORLD annoyed, more: come on man, use your damn brain. I tweeted out a few of these, but I realized I should just blog it out and fill my self-imposed (currently on-schedule) blog quota for the week (for those not keeping track: the plan was to do one blog post a week for the entire year).
Mini Savory Steak Pies
On Reddit I found a great little recipe for Mini Steak and Ale Pies. These looked delicious, and also seemed pretty simple to do. That being said, I am a lazy, lazy man and didn’t want to sit over the stove to cook it all. So I took the recipe and modified it so I could make it in my slow cooker overnight (minus the baking part, but the cooking of the steak and the braising afterwards were all done in the slow cooker to save myself from standing over the stove and watching it).
I have included the recipe, which I tweaked slightly, below.
Week In Review: Apache, Code, Auctions.
Things I’ve dealt with this week:
- Apache 2.4.6/2.4.7 Authn Issues
 - Writing ‘proper’ SQL for PHP.
 - GovDeals Auctions

Rant: Check Your Orders
Sigh.
It’s been a week. I was going to follow-up on a previous post about Zabbix API and getting a working status display going, but either Dell or Pitt-Ohio threw a wrench in the works today. We’re not sure who mucked it up, but someone mucked it up and we’ve spent the last two days cleaning it up.
Zabbix: Getting To Data You Can’t Easily Get To Via API
So, Zabbix has a lot of cool functionality in it. One of my favorite features is the API.
The API allows you to pull data like graphs, status of hosts, and active triggers.
